Global Positioning Systems (GPS)

What is GPS?

A system of satellites and receiving devices used to compute positions on the Earth. GPS is used in navigation, and its precision supports cadastral surveying.

How Do Schools Use GPS?

Schools often purchase cheaper GPS systems (such as the hand held machines) to locate field data, which can then be transferred to GIS software and aid in the creation and analysis of maps. Schools also use GPS to create virtual treasure hunts or geocache's in the school.
